Rhythm and Blues (R&B)

The genre that we are planning on making a music video on is RnB, and the reason for this is that, RnB is a very fast growing, it has suddenly become the leading genre in the music industry and this type of music sells the most and also the genre of music we listen to so we will know what specific conventions are needed to make the perfect RnB music video.

Rhythm and blues, often abbreviated to RnB, is a genre of popular African American music that originated in the 1940s. The term was originally used by record companies to describe recordings marketed mainly to urban African Americans, at a time when "urban, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat" was becoming more popular. The term later had a number of shifts in meaning. In the early 1950s and beyond, the term rhythm and blues was often applied to blues records. Starting in the 1950s, after this style of music contributed to the development of rock and roll, the term "RnB" became used to refer to music styles that developed from and included electric blues, as well as gospel and soul music. By the 1970s, rhythm and blues was used as a cover term for soul and funk. In the 1980s, a newer style of RnB developed, becoming known as contemporary RnB. In the mid-1990s, sampling and scratching became a part of RnB music and can be heard on urban radio stations today. Vocal groups like TLC and solo singers such as Mary J. Blige, Usher and R. Kelly continued the RnB tradition with massive commercial success. R&B in the 21st century incorporates a variety of styles including hip-hop, rap, dance and pop.

RnB music has had a strong impact on American culture for blacks and whites alike. The genre has influenced other types of music such as rock 'n' roll and also dancing, fashion, language and attitudes. As much as the black community embraced R&B music, so too did large portions of the white population, especially the youth. It is arguable, therefore, that R&B music helped to promote understanding and unity between different cultures.

They Dont Really Care About Us- lip sync

Evaluation

The lip syncing was quite accurate because the song we choose to lip sync was known well by all the group members as it was a Michael Jackson song. During the filming we played the music so that we can stay in the flow of the song, which will make it easier to play the actual music over the clip. We did really need to memorise the song on the spot because we already knew the lyrics.

Queen- bohemian rhapsody lip sync task

Skills: Lip Syncing

Evaluation

There were many difficulties we faced during this filming, we had to learn the lyrics off by heart which took same times because none of us heard this song before. To overcome this difficulty what we did was, we learnt the lyrics of the song one verse at a time instead of trying to learn the whole song because it made it easier for us to remember. Another thing we became aware of was that to get accurate lip sync with the song we had to exaggerate each word in order for us to lip sync correctly.

One thing we realised is that we need to consider the camera movements and angles to show that the person is singing. Doing this task we found out that, using a close up or medium close up works best in order to show the person is singing because we can clearly see the facial expression and movements, whereas if we use a long range shot it isn't as vivid.

By playing the song at the time of filming helped lip sync the song and keep in tune with it so when it comes to editing the clip it is easy to play the song over it and make it look as if the person showing on the clip is singing the song

This music video was one of the 1st video to be made in 1975
